"I lost 123 lbs for my kids"
Have you ever woken up in the morning and felt really sore? Then you remember that it is from a great workout the day before. That is the good kind of sore where it feels like you have accomplished something.
Well, I used to wake up and feel sore everyday. The problem was that I hadn’t done any kind of exercise for a long time, and instead of a good kind of sore, it was a painful kind. I would get out of bed and my feet and legs would be numb and painful. It would take about 30 minutes to get some feeling back in my legs and feet. I was over 250 pounds and all the extra weight was wreaking havoc on my circulation, causing the numbness and pain.
I knew that this was a sign of type II diabetes. My grandmother had it and my mother has it. One day I looked at my daughters and realized that this disease, that is caused by living an overweight and inactive lifestyle, could one day affect them as well. I couldn’t let that happen so it had to end with me. I had to change. I wanted to be a living example of a healthy lifestyle for my daughters.
That day I started running, slowly and not far, but I started. I also started a food journal. I began to lose some weight and as I did running got easier. I wanted to lose more! The Results Program at End Result Fitness introduced me to lifting weights regularly. Personal training combined with my running got me into a cycle of weight loss. Every time I lost 10 pounds, I found I could run further and lift more weights.
Continuous exercise and a reasonable diet led me to a healthy weight that was over 100 pounds lighter than when I started. Allan at End Results Fitness made sure I kept my workouts effective and safe. I now do 3 full marathons a year along with numerous other races. Nothing means more to me though, than seeing my daughters training for, and running, 5k races with me. When I see them smiling as they cross the finish line, I know they are on the road to an active and healthy life thanks to my healthy example!
